Every wedding I photograph has its own rhythm, and this one at the Ashburnham Hotel in Pembrey flowed perfectly from start to finish. The venue has a relaxed charm — classic rooms, beautiful open space outside, and just a short drive from the harbour. It’s the kind of place that gives me a lot of freedom as a creative wedding photographer, especially when a couple is happy to explore a little.
Getting Ready at the Venue
Morning preparations took place in Burry Port, which always helps the day stay calm and connected. There’s something I love about capturing those early moments — small details, nerves settling, the laughter that fills the room as the day really begins. Nothing staged, just natural storytelling.
The Ceremony
Ashburnham Hotel offers a bright, airy space for ceremonies. Even on days when the Welsh weather is unpredictable, the light indoors works beautifully. I focused on the reactions between the couple, the smiles from guests, and the little interactions that often go unnoticed but mean the most afterwards.
A Quick Escape to Burry Port Lighthouse
After the ceremony, we headed out for portraits at Burry Port Lighthouse, one of my favourite spots on this part of the coast. The soft coastal light, the open sky, and the lighthouse in the distance make it a perfect setting for creative portraits that feel a bit different from the usual wedding backdrop.
It was mega windy that day too, but we embraced it, I loved how her dress blew in the wind the more dramatic photos.
It’s the kind of place where you can really play with composition and movement — ideal if you’re looking for a creative wedding photographer who brings something a little more artistic to your images.
Back to the Party
Once we returned to the hotel, the reception was already buzzing. Ashburnham has a great space for evening celebrations, and it didn’t take long before the dancefloor filled up. These are always some of my favourite moments to photograph. Guests completely in the moment, the couple surrounded by everyone they love, and the energy turned all the way up.
Final Thoughts
What made this day special wasn’t just the locations — though they were pretty perfect — but the couple’s willingness to have fun with their photos and trust the process. When couples relax and enjoy themselves, the creativity naturally follows.
If you’re planning a wedding at the Ashburnham Hotel (or anywhere along the Carmarthenshire coast) and you’re looking for a creative wedding photographer who’ll capture the day in a natural, relaxed and artistic way, I’d love to chat.
